Meyers In Manhattan:: Cowgirl Seahorse

A few weeks ago, I realized I haven’t wandered through the South Street Seaport since the storm hit Manhattan. D & I bundled up and decided to explore, hoping that some of the tasty restaurants and coffee shops along the cobble-stone clad Front Street would be up and running in time for summer. I was shocked to see…

Meyers In Manhattan:: Boise Tea Parlor

Happy Friday, everyone! Anyone have anything exciting lined up this weekend? I’ll be working on a few projects and writing my first article for a new column, which I’m counting down the days to share details! I’m also planning to catch up over coffee with my…

Meyers In Manhattan: Butter Lane Cupcakes

A few weeks ago, my fellow foodie-loving-friend, Porter, and I decided to sign ourselves up for a cupcake class. We love nerding it out with girlie activities – and by that I mean, anything cultural, cooking related, or crafty that can technically be classified as an opportunity to learn, but really just gives us an excuse to catch up or stuff our face with food and drinks. Seeing Porter is pregnant now, wine tasting classes are clearly out, which moves cooking classes to the top of the list…

Meyers in Manhattan: Buttermilk Channel

For today’s installment of Meyers in Manhattan, I must preface that this restaurant is technically not in Manhattan, but in Brooklyn. But trust me, it deserves its own post! It was so warm out on Saturday that most restaurants on Court Street had doors and windows open so everyone felt like they were having brunch outside including the very tasty, Buttermilk Channel. Buttermilk Channel’s menu is loaded with so many yummy options that I wanted to sample each dish the surrounding tables ordered…

Meyers In Manhattan: Tatzu Nishi’s Discovering Columbus Exhibit

It seems to be that a majority of the time when I check out museums, tourist attractions, or exhibits are when my friends or family are in town. It makes the perfect excuse to be a tourist in your own city. Yesterday, thanks to my mother-in-law’s visit, I made it to New York’s latest artistic project – Tatzu Nishi’s Discovering Columbus exhibit. Nishi is the Japanese artist who built an upscale”penthouse” around the 13-foot-high marble sculpture of explorer Christopher Columbus that has presided over Manhattan’s Columbus Circle from 60 feet above ground since it was completed by G. Russo in 1892. The living room is made to feel like a real New York apartment complete with furniture, books, TV and wallpaper filled with iconic American images. My favorite part was seeing the statue “standing” on a large coffee table with killer views overlooking of the city. Continue reading for more pictures from my trip to the exhibit.

Meyers In Manhattan: Mercer Kitchen

You know how some restaurants are “hot” for a few weeks and then unfortunately they fizzle out because something “even newer” opened down the street? Well, chef and owner Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Mercer Kitchen is not one of them as it’s continued to rank as one of the more popular restaurants in SoHo for quite some time. I finally made it there with friends two weeks ago to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. We lucked out and scored a large communal table near the kitchen in the industrial-style basement, which added an even more fun and social vibe to the evening…

Meyers In Manhattan: Stella Manhattan Bistro

I don’t know about you, but every few weeks I create a list of all the things I’m going to accomplish that Sunday during my “upcoming jolt of productivity.” Buuut, Sunday rolls around, I think of 100 better things, and then convince my husband (which doesn’t take much if cocktails are involved) that we should scratch the plan and spend the day having fun. Many times we end up at Stella Manhattan Bistro tucked away on a small cobblestone street among gourmet food stores and coffee shops. Stella isn’t usually a place people travel far to get to unless they live downtown, but it happens to be one of our weekend spots. 99% of the time, I end up ordering the same darn thing because it’s…well, the most Stellar thing at Stella. (I know, lame pun)…
